you report a density of a Co-Re17-Cr23 alloy of 11.5 g/cm³. Have you investigated the influence of Silicon on the density?
The reason for my question is the following: I measured the density of different HVOF sprayed metallic coatings. Due to the very low porosity, all measurements match the reported data for bulk material, except the Co-Re17-Cr23-Si2 alloy, where the density is only about 8.8 g/m³.
HVOF spraying of the alloy Co-Re17-Cr23-Si2 does not produce the layer with this composition, but a complex structure of metallic to oxidic phases, microcracks and pores. Whole silicon, a large proportion of chromium and part of cobalt are converted into oxides during coating. If you also add 1-2 % porosity, you just get to the density of 8.8 g/cm3. This density will also be strongly dependent on the spray parameters.
