I am a researcher looking to study the effectiveness and implementation of the flipped classroom method. For those of you who have flipped your classroom: how do you structure your in-class time, which activities do the students prefer, and how do you use those in-class exercises to prepare the students for their exams?

The difficult thing with evaluating the effectiveness of a flipped classroom is that many of the skills you hope to educate for & evaluate are 'soft skills' such as group work, collaboration, leadership, initiative, and presentation.
We have done flipped classrooms at our university in part because normative competencies are central to sustainability but yet again, normative skills & knowledge are difficult to evaluate. Our students do debates, role playing, group projects, simulations (i.e., MIT's fish simulation), among other active learning methods. We are working on evaluating the success of this approach but are still in the early phases.
