Are there any cases reported about the asymptotic diaphragmatic defects in the right central part in adults?
What is the incidence of such an occurrence? Are there any symptoms that can be found? How do I confirm the presence of a Bochdalek hernia in a cadaver?
In the last year we observed one case of totally asymptomatic Bochdalek hernia in the left diaphragm during a robot assisted partial nephrectomy. All the preoperative imaging was negative for bowel, organs or fat erniation. In this case during the preoperative procedure the patient had a reduction of inspiratory volume and an increased pulmonary pressure: the robotic camera revealed the incidental presence of the left diaphragmatic defect that was readily repaired.

There are some scattered case reports about surgical correction (open and through thoracoscopy or laparoscopy) but all of them relate to SYMPTOMATIC patients. Our case in European journal of pediatric surgery (2004) dealt with a 12-year-old with recurrent pneumonia. You have a 2003 review about this issue in children by Maciej Bagłaj in Pediatric surgery international.
