Dear Sir, all professionals in all field have continuous education by attending seminars and work shops and conferences and becoming examiners for university and doing research, There are so many current ongoing methods which every professionals according to their field gets updated and gets intimated and helped with all aspects to keep up with the developments time to time. I agree that all professionals follow these activities, and the seminars / workshops / conferences are there to see on the net. However, if you look for texts on 'CPE' they invariably stem from teaching. If you look for professional guidelines & policy (i.e. registered professional requirements for CPE), they tend to come from medical & healthcare professions, & teaching. If you look at many university centres of 'continuing education', they tend to focus on medicine, healthcare & teaching.

So, whilst I believe that all professions undertake CPE, apart from these 3 main areas, I have seen little evidence as to what the other professions require their membership to do. Surely there is a need for people to undertake, guide & structure CPE, especially in professions that have registration & renewal requirements?  I just don't see the evidence of this much in literature or the public domain.

Dear Sir,   all I have heard is the Seattle university college of education joins the Carnegie project on education doctorate.

CPED’s objective is to efficient and dependability of the education leading to professional Doctorate status so that this way the next coming educational professional and the guiders are chosen efficiently and accurately. All the affiliated universities joins together and evaluate critically and analyze all perfections of the Doctorate status through Dialogue, objective experimentation, critical feedback and evaluation. Tajudeen - the  Seattle University College of Education   [https://www.seattleu.edu/education/professional-development/ ] is a good example  of how things like 'state hours' or units of credit of CPE/D are required in the US teaching profession. Especially, it highlights not only the way educators are developed up to Doctorate level, but also in regard to CPE/D. Not everyone wants/needs to study to Doctorate level, and even for top 'qualified' professionals, there is often a requirement for their on-going professional registration that they undertake so many hours or so many 'credits' of CPE/D every year.  This college provides CPE for educators in Washington state, & as the registration requirements differ between states, I am sure there are similar organisations across the country. Here in Finland, my own Education faculty provides a similar service, & as a registered educator in the UK I had similar requirements.  Before I became an educator, I was a registered healthcare professional, and we also had a mandatory requirement to undertake a certain amount of CPE/D every year.  If you didn't do it, you could be removed from the register & could not work.

So, how do other professional areas (see list below for just a few examples) deal with continual professional development?  Surely they keep themselves up to date with issues that relate to their fields, & interact with their wider peer communities?  Do other areas than teaching, medicine & healthcare have mandatory CPE/D requirements?

All occupations in some way, shape, or form, require some for of updating of information and/or skills.

This is an old question, but as you can see from the replies, there has still been no direct answer: What research has there been into CPE/D, other than from the teaching, medical & healthcare professions?

I reiterate an early response I gave 3 years ago:
