Infact, I am also publishing one scientific journal on behalf of a registered society of Krishi Vigyan but when I submit my research paper in some other scientific journal, a huge amount is asked as processing, printing or publishing charges. Sometimes, I feel that this is a very good business because now a days, every scientist is looking for more number of publications than its quality. Kindly comment, is it so or not?
Manoj - there are few journals out there that can remain viable 'for free'. A business model bringing in some sort of financial revenue, unless there is 'pure ethical volunteerism', needs to apply. Different journals use different funding models i.e. individual subscription, institutional subscription, advertising products and jobs/conferences etc. More recently, the growth of open access journals to keep up with publication demand, charges publication fees. So - for a long time now publishing has been a 'business' and remain so for at least the near future.

Please be careful while selecting a journal. Search the List of Predatory Journals. Many of these journals asking for unreasonable amount are predatory journals.

In my opinion, the problem is not whether scientific publishing is a business model or not. In fact, publishing is associated with costs, which needs not to be discussed or questioned. The problem is the flood of publications - because the amount of publications increases the impact of researchers and not the quality of the research. And the desire or the self-concept in the scientific community - that in times of internet, social networks and big data all information must be available free of charge - leads to more and more users which are not willing to pay a reasonable price for scientific publications, but more and more people are looking for information from free access journals or shadow libraries. This makes serious publishing difficult.
Some online journals which are not providing any hard copy of the journals, are charging huge processing fee. The major cost is on the printing of hard copies. When they are not getting the hard copies printed, for what they are charging huge processing fee. Moreover, they are not paying any amount to reviewers. So the whole money goes in their pocket. This practice need to be stopped. At least, we should avoid such journals.
I would NOT publish papers with ANY publisher that asks for a fee to publish a paper. I have a few options up my sleeve, if I would like to publish in an open-access mode, and that is to check with the library if they do have a fund for open-access fees. I have had several papers published in the open access mode, while I had external funding, but nowadays the library has all that I want to download anyway.
