I need a reliable qualitative instrument for website data analysis and so far it's the only free tool I have found to perform coding, aggregation, query and visualization. Any feedback or alternative suggestions would be appreciated.
RQDA is an extension for R, so if you use RQDA, you are using R as Aleksandar suggests! It is certainly reliable, and can perform the actions you need. However, the interface is a little complicated, and can take some getting used to. QDA Miner Lite is another free alternative, which will perform many of the basic tasks.
There are many other non-free alternatives which you may find easier to use, including Nvivo, MaxQDA, Dedoose, AtlasTI and our own, Quirkos. For an impartial comparison, the University of Surrey CAQDAS group (http://www.surrey.ac.uk/sociology/research/researchcentres/caqdas/support/choosing/) provides detailed reviews. Good luck!
Maria Matiatou i need to do qualitative content analysis using RQDA. What is ur experience. Please share the resources you may have worked out!! Thanks
I am exploring both R and its extension of RQDA now for my projects. My project involves both qualitative and quantitative data. I also intend to link R with one of the modeling software that am using for modeling and simulation in my project. I will be soon updating on the results from my use of R.
Hello, I watched the tutos provided by Atiq ur Rehman to understand (step by step) how RQDA package works. They were really useful! I would like to ask you if you know any other plot options apart from creating a sociogram of our codings. Thank you in advance!
Hi Tina Krell ! Yes I have used these tutorials as well to know how to use RQDA, they were really helpful as well.
First of all, you need to make sure that your colleagues know how to use RQDA package or are willing to learn it. Everytime you edit your transcription, you can indeed save document RQDA in a shared folder in github, dropbox etc. However, each contributor works separately on the same document by opening it in his/her own R studio (this would eventually create two different version of the same document..). Hence, I do not think there is a way to work all together in the same document at the same time.
It depends on the length of your transcription, I was thinking that you could (a) create two identical documents (creating the same code categories) than download your analysis in html and compare your coding results. If not, you could (b) share the screen, one of you is editing the document while you will be discussing together which category to apply where.
In the "settings" section, there is also the name of the person in change for coding. I tried to change my name to see if there is a change (meaning that changes from A appear, while changes made from B appear separately in the same document) but this option did not work for me.
Last but not least, you can extract information from your RQDA document normally in a form of .html or .pdf (also copy paste the text) so you need to also think if this option works for you when you are working in a collaborative mode.
Hi David Roca , many thanks for the recommendation. It's a software, right, I can't individualize additional analysis? It looks like it only calculates frequencies.
I uninstalled any version of the software and downloaded RQDA directly from this link https://github.com/Ronggui/RQDA . If you are using Windows, remember to first remove all R folders from previous installations. Unzip the downloaded rar file and run the .bat file
