Has anyone tried using 2 180 degrees arcs vs one full arc for lung VMAT SBRT? Can anyone see any advantage? I have heard in some discussions that it might confer some benefits but I am trying to wrap my head around it and cant see it immediately.
With lung VMAT SBRT there is little advantage in using a 360 degree arc as you will be unnecessarily irradiating the contralateral lung. A half arc should suffice.
I am agree with your answer, with my small experience in this technique i now that is better two semi arc inclusive for the dose distribution with different speed of the linac for delivery the dose and with two semi-arc reduce the dose in the contralateral lung.
I have just published an article on full arc, vs parital vs non-coplanar arc for lung SBRT VMAT. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jmrs.156/abstract
