I have tried to synthesize polyurethane (PU) with IPDI but failed many times. I can make good PU with (MDI) Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate with a similar recipe and method. One difference I noticed is that the viscosity of PU prepolymer increased rapidly when using MDI while no obvious change in viscosity of PU prepolymer was found when using IPDI. I know that MDI has a much higher reactivity than IPDI. I have tried to increase the reaction rate of IPDI by adding a catalyst, increasing the reaction temperature and increasing the reactant concentration (not using solvent at the beginning) but it all failed. Is there anything important to know when synthesizing PU with IPDI? I will be grateful if a successful recipe can be provided.
