I used SIMION to simulate the ion trajectory in a time of flight tube, the question is that how can I pulse the voltages on the electrodes using Lua? I'm not sure how a .lua can be coupled to a .pa file? and I'm not sure about the functions that I have to use for pulsing the voltages.
Hi Seyedeh Tahereh, its been many years since i had a program running in SIMION. But I will enclose a copy of a .prg file that I used to run a simulation of an electrostatic quadrupole. It was written for simion 7 which used something a bit simpler than Lua, but I understand it is still compatible. (I hope it is still of some help!)
Basically the segment "fast_adjust" is called every time step during an ions flight. You can then use this segment to change any of the voltages of the electrodes. There are also Terminate and Initialize segments which can be used if the voltages are not changed during the flight. You load up your electrode geometry in the workbench, and then run your user program, and it takes charge of running the ions.
Note its REALLY important to add some random phase into the system otherwise you can get some amasing phenomena as all your particles will be born at the same phase of your pulsing!
