Recently I was assigned on a project to restore back the limestone to its original state. The site was an ex-mining area to be exact. The problem here is, is it possible for the plants to survive on the limestone surface without any soil available on it? Indeed there is some species may survive but the mortality rate would be high, i guess. Any papers and suggestion will be appreciated!

The karst region is made of limestone and is suspectible to high rate of chemical weathering in areas of high rainfall and the following steps should be taken in reforestation of the area . The land should not be cleared massively and should be protected with growing grasses , there must be banning of minning activities and suitables trees such as pines and others which are adaptable to the environment . Besides there is need to carry out land capability studies to identify other land use for the area such as rangeland , ecotourism and so forth
