I have run novel object recognition in the same animals two times using different objects but test 1 and test 2 were separated by a couple weeks. I am wondering if any lab has done this or if there are any papers that have used this task but have run the same animals two or three days in a row.
I did find one paper that ran this task for 4 days in a row with different objects.

I did some pilot test with the same animals doing 3 different set of objects, and I didn't have problems with control groups.
I also published this paper "Beta2 oscillations (23–30 Hz) in the mouse hippocampus during novel object recognition" doing two sessions of object recognition with same the same set of animals separated by one week.
in this second publication, in the sleep stage session, I used similar protocol.

Thank you. For the pilot study, did you separate the sessions by day or did you run the 3 different sessions on the same day?
In separate sessions, always one week of difference. But the problem is if you do recordings... you can lose signal, especially spikes. So, if you will do 3 experiments with the same animal, you could try with 5 days between sessions to decrease the time between sessions. But if you don't separate and do the experiments in the same day you can have behavior problems like decrease in the exploration time of objects among experiments, or increase of anxiety especially if you work with i.p. injections.
Yes I could see how doing it on the same day can definitely be a problem in terms of decrease in exploration and this could also be due to habituation to the chamber. I will be recording brain activity and spikes so I will definitely take this into consideration. Thank you.
