We all have experiences from school days to our higher education that we liked teaching of few teachers. Our liking for some subjects was also influenced because of this liking. In your opinion what were the reasons for liking or disliking of teachers and how the same influenced your interest in some subjects?

That is certainly an important question. When I think back to my childhood and youth caregivers, I have to confess: I didn't have any teachers who were role models for me in any way. Neither at school nor at university. There was an exception in pedagogy, but this professor was no longer there after one semester. I don't like to say, I had have bad teachers. They were "normal", but nothing special or even enthralling. Of course it is something wonderful to have good teachers. That's difficult in the mass business at many universities, yet it happens. But if you don't have it, you still have the chance to successfully pursue your own career path by learning on your own.

Teachers who motivate are good teachers.
Teachers who demoralize and discourages students because they are 'weak' academically are inexperienced teachers that must be helped.
Bad teachers are those who soil the profession with bad professionalism while morally defiling themselves and engaging in disgraceful acts such as rape, theft, and others.
My answer is quite similar to Dr. Dickson Adom. A good teacher is the one who inspire his/her students. Furthermore, a bad teacher is the one who doesn't actually listen or doesn't try to understand his/her students.
Nearly 99% of my teachers at schools & universities could be rated as "Good". My judgment is based on qualities they possessed: deep knowledge of what they taught, truthfulness, honesty, and skill in conveying information.
The 1% 'bad" teachers included a "racist" & "unfair" teacher who treated me awfully during my undergraduate university years due to this story: After correcting the first exam, he did not return the papers but only read the marks & answered the exam questions. After class, I went to his office & told him politely that I deserved 7/10 instead of 4/10 according to what he stated. He became furious & promised to fail me in the course. I worked very hard for the second test which he did not return or even said what the marks were. Students were not allowed then to see or protest (in case) the final exam in which I did well.
Surprisingly, he gave me a ZERO grade which caused shock among my classmates as well as my teachers. Since he was powerful "politically", even the department's chairman was not able to rectify. That was the first & last time in which I "failed" but I learnt many lessons from that story on top of which is to pray for divine justice when I cannot get my basic human rights due to a despotic dominant foe. That teacher left in the next semester after he was offered a job in a "heartbreaking" country in Europe. ًWhy heart breaking ? Because I am sure that he cheated them.

I have not experienced such a strict distinction between good and bad in academic teachers. Everyone has his own peculiarities, just as we ourselves possess these peculiarities as university teachers. But that a teacher humiliates other people or speaks badly of them, I have never actually experienced, while criticism of research work and methods is something quite normal; but such criticism should of course not be directed at the person - which is quite difficult, because he knows about it. Work that is judged in this way, of course, feels personally attacked in any case.

To be unfair and racist is one of the worst thing we expect from a teacher. A teacher has to be free from all such bad traits as he is a mentor and role model for all the students. He has to be fair even if he is a bad teacher.
IN fact a good teacher is a liberal one who will explore in you your potential and nurture that potential so that you start enjoying learning. He will be free from any prejudices like race, religion, cast and creed. He will make his subject so simple and easy to understand in such a way that his students will start loving that subject. Role of a teacher is to effectively engage you in learning process.
We face in our learning journey many such teachers who are brilliant in their approach whereas some are nowhere near these qualities. Some teachers leave lasting impression on your mind because of their approach whereas some leave such a bad impression that some times students hate those subjects.

Teachers, simply, cannot fail me due to political reasons, but they have awarded me as less grades as possible like B minus 75%; (they surely wanted to give me less than that), they cannot give me less than 75%, as they can not reschedule remedial classes for me, because who ever gets less than 75%; they must have to give them remedial classes; plus, if they give me less than that, they have to answer many questions, as every one believes; I am not B minus student; and it all happened to me, due to speaking some truth, that is very strange and unacceptable to many (I have to pay the price that I paid). I have learned many lessons from that situation; stick to truth; whatever the price is; my learning enhanced, as I knew that grades will not achieved, but to gain knowledge that is true essence of learning.
Remembering from my school and college days, i think i still remember the ones who have been true to their responsibility as a teacher and have been sincere in their profession maintaining their dignity and delivering purposeful learning.I feel that no matter how strict the teacher may be, if he or she has the students best interest at heart, he or she is a good teacher and shall always be remembered fondly by his students. A bad teacher teacher is the one who sacrifices the nobility of purpose and gains frivolous popularity. There can be no other profession as meaningful, fulfilling and enriching as teaching.
Good teacher is who can explain his /her topic properly and student is satisfied with the answer .Teacher create the interest in students that they come in class and listen them , and if u are capable for that, you are a good Teacher ,
The good teacher has passion and conviction of the role he plays in the training of his students. He knows that his professional contribution helps the improvement of society. Beyond knowing what he teaches, he assumes that the educational experience with his students also favors him to continue training as a teacher and as a person. To be a good teacher you have to be a good student all your life. The bad teacher only instructs, does not educate, does not form, leaves no lasting traces in his students. He does not leave memories in his students. It is forgotten.
Too often we confuse likability with “good.” Students may not like what teachers have to offer. The question, then, is: How skilled are you are at designing effective learning experiences for them And communicating well? What they first resist and don’t “like” may be appreciated later.
Really, I am learning something of more than one comment. I would have liked to have had teachers for a long time, of whom I can say: A great teacher! I had this experience, with a teacher in pedagogy and a teacher in psychology, but I only had one or three semesters. They had calls to other universities. It's a pity that I never met my psychology teacher personally again. But I am proud to have been his student. He saw himself more as an outsider in the subject, as I can say of myself, but I like to live in this role, and I learned that from him in a short time.
We all had teachers we considered good and those we considered bad. Telling why they were either good or bad is not as easy as it seems, but let me try.
Bad Teacher
- Fails to explain properly. No, it is not only you who does not get what he is trying to tell, literally the whole class is at a loss. Teacher might even read the explanation monotonously from a book, looks up, asks whether there were still any question, half of the class raises their fingers, indicating "None of us got it!" - teacher turns back to his book "Ok, then lets' move on!"
- Teacher can't properly explain why something is right or wrong. For instance, you were having a maths exam, you had learned all them formulars, you make use of them, you get the right results, but for whatever reason the teacher expected you to use a different formula. Maybe this year they used something else, maybe you had used one from your brother's maths book that you could grasp more easily, so your teacher scores those calculations zero points even though the results were correct, whilst he gives half of the points to your neighbor who had the same results but no formula (and might have copied your results). Now you are asking your teacher: "Where did I go wrong?" Teacher: "The calculation is wrong, the formula is wrong!" - "How come it works?" - Teacher: "Just a coincidence!" - '"I used the formula on fifteen different calculations, they all lead to the correct results, how can that be a coincidence?" Teacher: "That can't work! Its wrong!" - "Then tell my. Explain it to me!" Teacher: "Because it is wrong!" ... Thats when I decided to skip maths at 13th grade.
- I somehow had my worst teachers in maths. They always made the impression they did not really understand what they were teaching, they did not care about whether you understood it and sometimes there were two or three gifted people, or maybe they just had a thing for maths and worst of them all was the teacher who only cared about those and decided that all his efford was lost on the others anyway.
Good Teacher
- That would be the one who gives off the impression that he himself is really interested in his subject. It is the teacher who does not appear to just read from the book, a teacher who really enjoys teaching and is happy if you get interested. All right already, school is all about grades, but if the teacher at least tries to make you feel as if getting you interested and involved is his main goal you will learn more easily and if you enjoy studying it will lead to better grades.
- Also I always prefered a fair teacher who was tough and demanding over those that were easy to get along with, but you felt they had their favourites in class and might have been willing to pass good grades easy to some students but not to others.
Some are born teacher as they are blessed with good communication skill and ability to present subject matter in most simplest form.
Whereas others have to work hard and burn midnight oil to deliver their lectures and with passage of time become experienced teachers.
However there is a third category which will never reach to a level that students enjoy their teaching and probably they fall in the category of bad teacher.
A good teacher, the teacher in explaining the material is easily accepted by students, the method used in learning is fun, and does not like to be angry. Teachers are bad if they cannot implement one of these three aspects
A good teacher is really a mentor, philosopher and guide to students. Who really understands the problems of each one of the student in the class and facilitate his/her learning and inspire all of them. He has to be a wonderful communicator, understanding and having abundance patience to deal with heterogeneous class composition.
In the modern era the information is easily accessible but some one has to create extraordinary environment to engage the students for meaningful learning.
