Kabul River is flowing in center of Kabul City. until 1980s the river was not only giving a beautiful look the city but was also recharging the ground water table, now a days this river only has water flow in spring season and has become a place for untreated waste water and solid waste. we have developed a concept for restoration of Kabul river and some case studies in the same prospect will helps us.

The best way is to have with STPs, natural process viz. designed large dugouts with river bottom laid with stones for accumulation of sludges at the confluence of waste streams in to main course of river.
In series similar dugouts are done with stone filters and plants- floaters or on banks or or on float islands.
If a good HRT is given say 6 to 8 days then it would be good.
We should be able to desilt/ dredge out wet sludges to be dried on banks and transferred for co composting with bio mass etc.
It would be good to have road lanes at to facilitate mechanical desilting.
Plants in floats viz. Elephnt Grass may be grown used by communities as live stock feed for cattle poultry others.
Recycled water where meeting standards to be used for urban greens, traffic islands, parks Etc.
Harvesting rain water to go in tandem and rains stored in w/bodies and wells.
