I made a setup for coulter counter/resistive pulse sensing following the following link " https://www.teachengineering.org/activities/view/duk_retcoulter_act1".

Followings are the steps for the setup:

  • I cut off the bottom of a plastic beverage bottle about 5 cm from the bottom.
  • I made two small holes 4-5 cm away from each other near the cut end of the bottle.
  • Then I attached a metal rod to a ring stand using a clamp holder.
  • I used 9V battery.
  • Two 30cm insulated wire.
  • I stripped the ends of the wire.
  • Attach the battery, 1kΩ resistor, and wires. connections is secured with electrical tape.
  • I placed one wire in the bottle and the other in the beaker beneath the bottle acting as a reservoir.
  • For making Solution

  • Filled a 600 ml beaker with 500 ml water.
  • Mixed 0.3 g NaCl into water.
  • Add 2-3 small drops of liquid soap.
  • Stir.
  • I used small copper sheet for making electrodes. I also make electrodes rings from copper wires. I used 1k resistor as mention in the link above and I attached oscilloscope probe across the resistor. I am using RIGOL oscilloscope MSO5354. But the problem is with the reading on oscilloscope, it is too noisy. I am getting to many fluctuation in the reading. How should I remove the noise? Is it possible to get reading directly with oscilloscope or I have to use amplifier?

Any answer or any help will be appreciated.
