How far this technique has been developed? Can anyone discuss about the future scope present in this technique where I can start my work (Visual Pattern Recognition)?
James I research in biometrics identification using a fingerprint or a face image or a recorded voice and others. Using this features can be identify a person, first a feature set are extracted from the image or the audio, then are compare with an stored feature set, some algorithms and process are well known to made this task. I can't review this page every day but if you are interest let me a message or write me an email to [email protected].
A lot of advancements using Pattern recognition yet to come.... Robotics is one of the leading area where you can start your work. Where you can train the Humanoids etc..
One way to look ahead in pattern recognition is look back at the works of some pioneers in pattern recognition (PR). One of the most influential and cogent pioneers in pattern analysis and pattern recognition is Ulf Grenander. Here are three works to consider:
Grenander, Ulf; Miller, Michael (2007). Pattern Theory: From Representation to Inference. Oxford University Press. ISBN 978-0199297061.
Grenander, Ulf (1996). Elements of Pattern Theory. Johns Hopkins University Press. ISBN 978-0801851889.
Grenander, Ulf (1994). General Pattern Theory. Oxford Science Publications. ISBN 978-0198536710.
See the attached image for something to consider in wondering about the future of pattern recognition.
I can give you other options, I work in Biometrics identification. This is a pattern recognition area. This area have a whole world, you can made research in topics like classification, identification, verification, feature extraction, indexing, reconstructing and other process in all biometrics feature. For example fingerprint classification or indexing or face recognition.

Thanks James, I will study the thesis and latter I will tell you about it. If I don't answer over here please use my email because the internet access is a little hard for me and sometimes I do not have enough internet to enter here.
