I htink all these agreements make sense and will need a bit more time to become effective. 200 years of industrial development cannot be corrected within a decade, weather extremes will increase, so will the related restrictions and money spent on respective counter measures. Renewable energy never made more sense - economically (!) - than today. New technologies and many little progresses are on their way,. However they still need to (and will) take up momentum. It is scary how minimal the impact - globally - of the Covid related travel reductions is on carbon emissions!

It calls for disrupting changes in technology, social behaviour and living cultures, and it inevitable. The change management is the key, and who (communities) embrace to change as per the need and prudent understanding would sustain. The more we learn to live with the risk and nature, but in a technologically determined natural system (the noosphere), more the life forms and humans sustain on this earth. Hence, is the time ahead of ecological imperatives.

It is remarkable and a nice piece of R&D for socio-psychologists. What we observe today with the Covid-19 pandemic is that politicians in many countries listen attentively to scientists and biotechnologists which are experts in this field of R&D, e.g. virology, infectiology, and molecular biology (DNA sequencing, vaccine development and large scale production). Denial and conspiration theories do exist in this field, but on some exceptions, not among politicians and CEO's.

When we look at 'Climate Change' there is a big difference. There is much less direct action when compared with the Covid-19 pandemic. Apparently, this can be explained by the treat of death, unemployment, economic crisis, ... which are direct consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. With climate change, direct impacts on death, unemployment or economic crisis, is perceived as deserving much less direct action driven by scientists like the ones active in the IPCC or the UNFCCC. Some politicians (even presidents of world powers) even deny that climate change is actually a genuine problem area. CEO's of global companies as well, are pretty reluctant to comply with the requirements defined by scientists for a fast reduction of carbon emissions from their industrial and consumer goods activities. Climate Change denial and conspiracy theories are very abundantly present in online as well as offline public discourse and discussions. Much more than in the case of the Covid-19 pandemic!

How can this be explained, while ever intenser hurricanes, drought, devastating forest fires, intense rainfall and inundations, lower agricultural productivity, land use change, sea level rise, arctic and mountain glacier meltdowns, to name a few impacts of climate change are taking their toll on human, animal and plant lives, and destroy local to regional economies? Does any organization keep track of the death toll, the cost of destructive wildfires, the cost of the loss of a stabilizing biodiversity, the loss of global sustainability, to name a few of the local to regional costly catastrophes? The IPCC makes yearly reports on the loss of global sustainability for the coming human, animal and plant generations. But a majority of politicians do not even read these reports, let alone draw conclusions and act per direct! How many upper and lower limits will have to be broken, before politicians will act globally and concerted? As many scientists warn for, action by decision makers may come too late for humanity to cope with the ever more and more intense impacts of climate change. Will the downfall of humanity be due to a lack of long-term vision by our decision makers and a stupid struggle for global military and economic power houses? Quite possible, unless a large meteorite hits the planet and causes a decennium of global winter. That's how the dinosaurs were wiped from the Earth. Humanity might destroy itself, by ignorance, greed, stupidity and the fight for global power!
