Does anyone have experience with a free software that can allow me to perform volume analysis using images from a DICOM platform? I only need something that can give me a 2d area in cm2. I will use an equation to derive the volume from 4h and 2ch views obtained in echocardiograms.

you could use "The Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit" (MITK)
http://mitk.org/
for 3D segmentation of the chambers and then calculation of their 3D volumes instead of using a formula, which will probably only give you a rough estimation.
1. Use the segmentation plugin for delineation of the region/ volume (3D-interpolation might be very helpful!)
2. Use Statistics plugin for calculation of the volume
(For volume calculation, it might be necessary to crop the original image with the mask you produced in step 1. I suggest to use the "segmentation utilities" plugin "image masking" feature in order to obtain such a result.)
