I am working on a solar receiver and I am interested in calculating surface temperature of solar receiver to be raised by absorbing direct normal irradiance (DNI) to select PCM to be used for the particular temperature requirement. Can anyone suggest something helpful?
From literature and the famous solar thermal book by Duffie and Beckman "Solsr Engineerng and Thermal Processes", it was stated that calculating surface temperature of a solar collector is very difficult because it depends on homogenous nature the particulate constituents of the receiver material.
Also if you use a contacting temperature recorder exposed to DNI, you will get some error due to heating from the irradiation.
A suggested solution will be to either use a material with known Fr or perform an experiment to find the Fr of the material. And then you run a fluid over the surface of the receiver, and calculate the mean fluid temperature by finding (Tf -Ti) .
Refer to the material attached. Chater 6 (6.6) talks about temperature distribution on flat plate collectors.
