My suggestion, is use Cationic type of surfactant like TMA, BTA, BDTA, TMOA, HDTA etc . Because bentonite isomorphous substitutions require cations, denominated exchange cations, to compensate the negative charges in their laminar edges. These benonite interact with organic compounds such as cations to form complexes of varying stabilities and properties. This reaction increases the basal spacing of bentonite after treatment with organic cations.
