I have two questions regarding fish biodiversity.
Q1. What does it mean if you have a large or small number of families with only one or two species in each of them?
Q2. What does it mean if you have a large or small number of families with large number of species?
Do these changes have something to do with the evolution of the families in the area?
Let me ramble about this for a while:
Both your questions include large or small number of families, so the only difference between them both is the number of species f fish, disregarding the number of families.
There have been a number of ratios proposed between family N° and species N°, however the value of those ratios is not something I perceive as objective or useful.
I believe that if you are looking for evolutionary trends of families, you should first examine fossil records of those families, and the distributions worldwide (if there is other places in which this family inhabits or inhabited in the past). With that information and you current observations you could say "Ok, this family has been increasing/decreasing the number of species in it, so its successful / not successful".
