Please am looking for an information incase someone knows where i can take my antenna for radiation pattern measurement within china because alot of high impact factor journals are demanding the radiation pattern measurement. I need it seriously
If you have VNA and TWO long cables, it is possible to measure the far-field patterns using that VNA only. If you have, please inform me, I will tell you the procedure.
Suppose, your antenna resonates at f1 GHz. Then Design one dipole whose resonant frequency should be f1 GHz. Now, you have to antennas, your antenna (AUT) and one dipole.
2. Connect this two antennas with VNA using long cables. Keep these two antennas more than (2d^2/lamda) apart to satisfies the far-field conditions
3. Then rotate one antenna, say dipole from 0 deg to 360 deg with step size 5deg or 10 deg. For this step, take a print of ' Protractor ' in on A4 transparent sheet. Paste it the beneath the antenna holder. Then, manually rotate it.
4. The other antenna can be fixed. Measure S21 or S12 based one your antenna numbering
5. After performing Steps 3-4, you will have measured data at one plane. This kind of measurement must be performed for FOUR planes (two for E-plane (co and x-pol and other two for H-plane (co and x-pol)).
6. To find the E-plane co-plane, place both antenna in such a way that the E-field should be parallel to each other. Please consult the book by C A Balanis, Antenna Theory for this purpose.
7. Then Normalize the co and X-pol of E-plane by its max value. Plot it.
8. Then Normalize the co and X-pol of H-plane by its max value. Plot it.
