In the task of face recognition I aim to choose between two approaches in order to tackle the problem. First a holistic approach using eigenfaces (PCA) over 2D images and/or depth maps of 3D models of individuals is an option (like in [1]). On the other hand, a feature based approach like SIFT seems to be another good option (over 2D face images and/or 3D models or depth maps of faces).
According to your experience (knowledge) there is some advantages on using one or the other approach. Some recommendation?
