We are extracting proteins from whole tadpoles, but recently some literature has turned up that make us also interested in the level of corticosteroids in our specimens. Could we extract both proteins and corticosteroids from the same specimen with some combination of a lysis buffer and an organic solvent step?
Hello! I have a similar question at the moment. I am plannig to try using mechanical homogenization in a water buffer, centrifuge the sample and obtain a precipitate and supernatant, to which you can add an organic solvent. The output, in theory, will be three samples: steroids from the sediment, which are not dissolved in water; proteins that are precipitated from the supernatant in organic solvent; steroids that are separated from the supernatant in organic.
That's the sort of thing I've been wondering as well. But does anyone have any experience with it?
