Expression pattern of VEGF in myocardial infarction?

Hi,

I am working in experimentally induced myocardial infarction (MI). I have done western blotting to analyze the expression of VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor). I have got increased expression of VEGF in MI induced group and downregulated expression in protective group. I have confused whether this expression pattern is correct and also like to know about the role VEGF in MI.

the increased expression of VEGF might be due to Arterial hypoxemia during myocardial infraction (ref. A VALENCIA - ‎1969 , O Storstein - ‎1968) and hypoxic conditions generally induce VEGF through HIF pathway. thus you can justify your results
