As we all know that p-y curves are obtained by the double derivation and double integration of bending moments profile along the length of the pile to get p and y respectively. For this, we need to properly curve fit the bending moment profiles via 5th order polynomial function to obtain a smooth P(soil resistance) profile for double derivation.
I want to ask that once we get the soil resistance profile of the entire length of the pile, then how can we obtain p-y curves at specific depths.
e.g pile length is 15m and from bending moment profile I obtain soil reaction(p) along the length of the pile and if I want to draw p-y curves at 3m, 5m, 8m how can I do that??
If you want to draw a p-y curve at each depth, you need to increase your horizontal load step by step. Each load increment will give you a slope profile (S). By integrating S, you get deflected shape or y. From the product of third derivative of S and EI, you get soil resistance p. Then you know (y, p) values along the pile by that load. By increasing your load and repeating the same process, p-y curves along the depth can be plotted.

You can specify your p-y curves at each depth using some well known standards (check DNV OS J-101). If you want to see the overall response of the pile at each depth than you should follow the procedures above or you can use the program ALP which will do the integration for you.
you can insert dummy beams inside your pile, and the reaction on those dummy beams is your soil pressure /m hence p-y curves
I have a similar question ;it says p=cy^1/n to complete the parabola but when developing p y curves for soils with both cohesion and a friction angle,it doesn't give me a suitable graph.how can I go about this?
