Are animal models still needed in biomedical research to understand normal and abnormal function, from gene to phenotype, and to provide a basis for preventive or therapeutic intervention in human diseases?

Animal models are currently not interchangeable with any other method.

The ethical aspects must of course be respected, and if the use of animals is unnecessary and can be replaced with these other methods are preferred
