Hi Atiq,

Usually a cuasi-experiment refers to a design were:

(a) There is/are manipulation of Independent Variable/s in some way (different levels-modalities, presence-absences, etc).

(b) But participant are not randomly assigned to experimental conditions / groups (experimental groups, or experimental vs. control group).

A "pure experiment" implies both, manipulation and random assignments.

For a study to qualify as an experiment, it should be designed to include randomization of study participants, institution of control mechanisms and manipulation of the independent variable. A quasi-experimental study on the other hand has 2 out of the 3 features mentioned earlier. Hope you find this useful.
