Looking for any experience in building/using technology interventions for teaching/learning languages like English/Spanish/Hindi/etc. I am interested in practice environments that are sufficiently personalised, interactive, and aimed at improving one's competence in use of specific language topics such as a active-passive voice, reported speech, use of propositions, use of punctuation, etc. I am working on a project to build such tools, and would like to know of any experience anyone has that they can share. I have done some literature work, and also guided one PhD student on constructivist language learning environments, and I am also working on the area of student models for language learning systems. So, I am looking for interesting thoughts, ideas, and even collaborations.
Dear Sasikumar Mukundan, In my opinion experience building/using technology to support language learning may be mainly classified by thinking that the used technology is towards ‘more spoken’ or ‘more written’. Some examples are:
Oral interaction like Skype, simulated oral interaction e.g. Second Life,
Chatter bots, spontaneous written interaction like text-ing, twittering, lengthier, and more considered written interaction e.g. email, blogging multi-modal compositions sustained, reflective written texts and on and on ...
I have some interest in this area, especially collaboration.
