I'm looking for a few samples of grant applications proposing new antimicrobial compounds and/or therapies.
My objective is to collect information on how to properly and thoroughly validate a potential new antimicrobial in terms of their activity, as well as in terms of their safety to mammalian cells (bio-compatibility), per the standards of international funding agencies.

I'm proposing an antimicrobial with potential topical applications (e.g. wounds).
My question is: what kind of preliminary tests need to be conducted in order to validate my compound. For instance, is it enough to demonstrate that my compounds inhibits bacterial growth? And how does one assess that a new compound is safe for humans? What kind of cells lines and/or tissues are best to evaluate this?
I you your someone else can help out, that would be much appreciated.
