How can there be no problem between Muslims and others? The problem is all the problem between Muslims and others. Look at the Palestinians who occupy it. Look at Iraq, Drowning it in a sea of blood. Look at Lebanon. Look at Yemen.
But as you know that The attacks of the foreign powers on the Islamic countries took place after the conflict, struggle and separation of Muslims.
In Islamic countries there is a serious internal conflict, as well as lack of education and poverty. This situation gave the opportunity for external intervention.
Hathem and Ramazan, I feel the problem with Islamic countries and non Islamic countries is a lack of knowledge, understanding and respect. In America an Islamic child in a public school brought a Science Project to school that he was proud of . It was just a sort of toy he had invented. The teacher over reacted and was gripped with fear because she thought it was a bomb. She had the school surrounded with a bomb squad with a false report out of fear that the child was going to blow up the school. The parents were hurt that their child's innocent project was misinterpreted. They sued the school. Because someone looks differently from us, or dress differently from us or have different religious beliefs or customs that are different from our does not mean that we treat that person differently from anyone else. All Islamic people are not terrorists ready to kill us at a moment notice. If one would get to know them you will probably find a person who is passionate about life, freedom, education, and moral rules. Many of them love to pray and they love Allah. The other half that shames and embarrass Allah with their hatred of others who are not like them makes a disgrace of the Islamic State.
As a Christian I can honestly say it is not exactly comforting to my peaceful coexistence with Islam to be referred to as an infidel. Even your other commentators tried to soften the language by say Muslim and non-Muslim. I also agree with Bicer when he places a major problem with peaceful coexistence within the Muslim community itself. It is certainly not western influences that gave birth to the Kharijites approach to the takfir to justify killing other Muslims for religious reasons.
I want to also be clear that I fully realize the prejudice associated in western cultures pertaining to Muslim, but globally Christians are killed 4 times as much as all other religions combined. The most recent statistics I heard a few weeks ago is that 80% of religion associated deaths are in fact Christians.
I pray for a peaceful future, but I don’t predict it within my lifetime.
There will never be a peaceful coexistence between muslims and people of other interpretations of existence as long as aggressive terms like fidels and infidels are used. And in the field of scientific researchTsuch terms od religious inquisition should definitely not be used; otherwise the author is a partisan of religious fanatism and not a scholar.
