Is it a possibility that the ester peak merges into the 1630 cm-1 peak? In the spectra the unmodified cellulose has peak of comparatively lower intensity, but in the esterified material the peak increases in strength slightly which should decrease. Is it because of the water released during esterification? If so then how to reduce to improve esterification?
have you dried the sample before the IR analysis ? if not just do it. If so, what is your protocol? Ac2O in pyr? maybe you have some acetic acid on it.
you should write the protocol and all used chemicals and reagent, i think the peak must higher this .
You have to check before and after esterification. After esterification give 1% wash of sodium Bicarbonate to the rx mass. Then proceeds for FTIR. I think esterified peak will be more intense and towards higher wavenumber than 1630 Cm-1.
