Can you help me solve a problem I'm having with my electrochemical characterization? I utilized H2SO4 1M and a 2 electrode system which produced good results for CV and CD. However, when I used a 3 electrode system, the results were not satisfactory and could not be compared to the 2 electrode results. Any suggestions on how to address this issue?
The answer will depend on your measuring system set up. It is hard to say without knowing what is the meter and how are you connecting the electrodes to it.
Thank you for your reply. The measuring systems are identical, and the only variation lies in the method of connecting the working and counter electrodes to the systems. In the two-electrode system, the working electrode was connected to the anode, while the reference and counter electrodes were connected to another part of the system (the cathode). In the three-electrode system, the working electrode was attached to a gold electrode affixed to your sample with carbon glue. The counter electrode was connected to a platinum wire counter electrode, and the reference electrode was connected to an Ag/AgCl reference electrode.

Green: Working electrode
Red: Counter electrode
White: Reference electrode
There is no such 3-electrode measurement from a point of electronic view. When you change the electrode size and type of the working electrode, then you might be changing the current pathway inside the sample and so the impedance seen at the surface may be different.
