I would like to ask if anyone is aware of any models, research or practical guidelines on the effects of snow or frozen soil on driving of machines on natural soils. In effect- how much, and what type of snow (frozen soil) has to be present on the ground in order for machines to drive without major damages to soils.
Th frictional coefficient could be changing with many factors like the ambient temperature, Depth of snow, Soil quality(dryness), Moisture in frozen soil etc.hence practical problem handling would be more accurate.....
Yes, but I am more interested in soil bearing capacity, and how that changes in relation to snow and frozen soil.

In my dissertation for determining the bearing capacity of frozen soil, I used data from the book "Buildings and structures in the far north" Velly Yu.A. (1963). There is a graph of the effect of the dependence of the modulus of elasticity of frozen soils on the magnitude of the negative temperature at a pressure of 2 kg / cm2 (in the attached document). Obviously, these are not forest soils. But still, I used this data first.

Thank you for your reply, this is plate sinkage test I believe. I wonder-what was the plate size? is it mentioned anywhere?
