I'm conducting a study on a new questionnaire, so I need to perform both EFA and CFA. I'm wondering if I can collect a large amount of data (1000+ responses) and then split the responses randomly into two separate samples, one each for EFA and CFA.
Or do I have to collect data and do the EFA, and then revise/edit/change the questionnaire in some meaningful way before collecting data for the CFA?
I haven't found a satisfactory answer to this question yet. I have found some responses on this website that say collecting a large amount of data with the SAME QUESTIONNAIRE and then splitting it into two separate "samples" for EFA and CFA is okay, but I'd really like a definitive answer.
Thanks!
