I am confused as to whether Enhanced Entity Relationship is a GPL or DSL. My thesis promotor insists that it is a GPL, while others have said that it's a DSL.
Why would you consider it to be a GPL or a DSL? And are there any papers that I could use to prove the statement in my thesis?

It is not necessarily a 'provable' point. This depends a lot on someone's perspective. GPL and DSL describe the opposite ends of a metric. A language can fall between the two, and one's perspective can move it closer to one or another.
Is the metric determined by the 'capabilities' of the language, or the domain in which it is most commonly used? Or is it determined by what the language was originally designed for?
You might find insight by learning exactly why you and your thesis promotor's opinion differ. Maybe you are both using different criteria to determine where a language falls in the GPL / DSL range?

As long as a data modeling language is used without targeting a specific application field, it can be referred to as GPL. UML as a whole is a GPL.
In the same way, the Entity-Relationship data model may be used as a general architecture modeling tool without targeting the database application field anymore. It is then exclusively applied to describe the generic structure of the data handled in information systems. Follow:
