There are reputed companies specialized in making medicines in particular and drugs and for beauty creams and lotion in general are extracting and purifying the bio-active products from the plants and either using those in their own manufactures medicines or selling to meet and cater the need of other firms.

There are many alkaloids and and other bio active products and plant extracts from various plants in India and abroad. There are some firms which are engaged only in extracting the extracts from plants that they sell to the manufacturers, be they use those foe cosmetic products or medicines. There are drug and medicine manufacturing firms that extracts and use those fo rtheir own products.

Yes, It is there. Importers in Developed countries are importing plant extracts for cheap from INDIA and selling finished products/formulations back to us + a cost rider. I just wonder, why India allows export of plant extracts/essential and aromatic oils as raw materials to developed countries pharma sector. I feel those companies should be asked to setup their plants in INDIA only. So that we get the drug on reasonable cost in INDIA itself

Sir i too visited 2 'SENNA' medicinal plant exporting companies in tamilnadu..They are actually exporting the powders n extracts of plants to various foreign countries.Sir i too agreeing with u .Because those multinational companies are selling finished product in developing countries like India.

it will be very interesting to threat some cancer cells and analyze with microarrays analysis the effects, and using reverse engineering technology which is the pathways involved. I have already used this technics in drug discovery and i think it will be very useful for your research too.

When you talk about medicinal plants as treatment under AYURVEDA. Plant based preparations can cure the disease, stimulate immunomodulatory system of the body to keep the body fit, a balanced intake of herbals can keep a number of ailments away[Preventive, therapeutic & curative], I know about some herbal preparations which prevent Cancer cells to certain extent. Only we have to potentiate it further and verify & validate the impact. There is a plant in MP, the leaf extract intake once in a year keeps malaria at bay for almost one year. For testing these remedies through modern medicine system, we have to work hard to find out suitable test models. There is adire need to develop new test models from Ayurveda point of view.

Besides the extracts and concoctions of the medicinal plants, there are many companies, the drug manufactures and others that make the alkaloids and the like chemicals including the colors and toxicants from the plants and the collection of herbs is a big business where the the herbs are dug or collected from the forest and now a days there have started medicinal plant cultivation also.
