DFIG as "load" refers to drawing reactive power from grid. Most pitch regulated wind turbines installed for e.g. use this type of generator to draw reactive power from grid.

They are usually built with capacitor banks (an auxiliary component of power system) and require energizing of the stator/rotor winding circuit in generator. This will also enable the power converter to supply power (real /active) to grid once the turbine enters the power production stage (i.e. when there is enough wind)
