A company is just a name given to different resources under one word expressed by its mission and vision. Knowledge is only one factor for production which comes to company through the development plan of their people. so all company tries to facilitate their people by following different strategy. it may be perceived differently by people but company always support their people growth.
Should the purpose of an organization be to provide meaningful opportunities for career advancement, which to most people equates with moving up from an entry-level job to a management position? Might it not be more important to find meaning in work and so look for organizations that make that easier? Yes but in a way buiilding on from Olivier's comment too many people sit around waiting for the company to 'advance' them. In my case advancement for me came because i took personal initiative especially outside the company within my professional association, built my profile and skills which management then took note of.
