The idea is interesting and there seems to be a logical solution, which is related to reliability. And yet to try I to write my opinion about this issue I need more specific parameters of your mission.
Can you describe the existing measure? If it is a single-item, then it will difficult to assess reliability. In contrast, construct validity would examine a pattern of predicted correlations with other items.
Your study would be more interesting if you can identify all variables for performance measurement. These can be easily got from literature. Afterwards, you can then select which variables apply in your own case study. In this way, you can justify your option of validation.
