The scope and possibilities of business cooperation with the world of science are continuously increasing, like the triple helix, although I do not know if the rate necessary for the significant advance of both.
The objectives of both disciplines (as bodies of knowledge) are similar. Both believe in applying logic and rationality to solve real world problems and benefit from it. This functionalist and material orientation makes them natural allies. However, a good question is whether businessmen, a la capitalists, are responsible for developments in science or is it the other way around? A good answer has been provided by Stephen Marglin in the following paper:

The scope and possibilities of business cooperation with the world of science are continuously increasing, like the triple helix, although I do not know if the rate necessary for the significant advance of both.
The possibilities of cooperation is increasing between all segments of society, including the business sector. This cooperation is needed for sustainable development as long as all play by sustainability rules.
It is increased not only in the business sector but also across industries and borders cooperation.
Growth is constant: companies need innovative and increasingly challenging businesses. The academy helps in achieving those goals.
In the context of the above considerations, the following question is also current:
Is the scope of cooperation and correlation between the development of enterprises in the technology sectors and the world of science growing in the knowledge-based economy?
