Does the researcher find time to do research with so many responsibilities outside of research and teaching? Does the researcher get enough time to rest?
When we finished our Bsc degree someone was very happy with the idea of being appointed as teaching assistant. From that point was the begining of hard work because after few months or more they request for master degree .after master they want as to start PhD. After PhD. they ask for papers submissions and publishing and you have to supervise undergraduate students as well as postgraduate degrees .by the time your age is almost about to finish and still you have to learn more every day. This our life in the career of education.
What I do is make my own time. Find space in my agenda and also not carrying work to home. I find my way to teach and research and nothing else more. Office occupation is good and need it but in my case is claustrophobic in academic way, non-research coordinators won't give you the scenario to do what you good at it, won't see the advantages... so, I make my own time and space.
That is always the greatest challenge in our work. How to make time for research. It is very tough and telling on the individual, but since I consider research to be fundamental even in my profession as a teacher trainer, I make it a point to find the time for it.
Depends on individual attitude and perception and motivation towards research. According to me nothing is impossible, if there is a positive will the way automatically comes out.
It is difficult especially if you have to undertake off campus supervision. I agree with Hassan Shaabi ,
initially their is the demand for higher degrees followed by the research. The demand for professional development continues as long as you are employed. You continue to meet the demands of your students and employers often at the detriment of family time and your own health.
You are not the only one who's faced with the same challenge. When I was being a full-time teacher, I was too busy to do research. I really want to update my knowledge system and enhance my ability to help my students. So I just made a decision that I would pursue a doctorate degree. As a consequence, I become a full-time student.I am doing my PhD now.
I think proper time management is the key to success for so many different phases in life. Proper time management in research, in other official works, in family, in religious works, in holidays- every sphere of life needs proper time management. Other wise, one can't complete any of his duties.
We all have 8 hours work day. Effective time management is keyed. effective time management may be achieve through (i) prioritization, and (ii) task optimization by breaking down cumbersome and unnecessary procedures or steps.
