In my point of view the simulation of autonomous vehicle needs to consider the interaction between the vehicles and associated infrastructures. Hence, I wonder what types of communication(interactions) in your project is going to be study through an agent based modeling.
Agree that V2V and V2I cCommunication as well as cooperation between vehicles might have a large impact on the effects of automated vehicles and therefore need to be included in traffic models. The Project is in the thesis proposal definition phase and for the microscopic traffic simulation PhD Project (SMART consists of 2 PhD Projects) communication and cooperation is one of the aspects that are included in the discussions together with heterogenity due to different AV levels and variation in behaviour within AV levels during the transition phase towards 100% level 5 AVs.
It is very interesting topic. I think the goal of your project is to to develop a hybrid simulation model (meso and micro) for autonomous road transport. It is similar to BusMezzo application, consists of two modelings (a Mesoscopic and an Agent-based modeling). Is the microscopic simulation going to be the agent-based modeling?
No plans for a hybrid simulation model but one PhD focusing on enhancing microscopcis models and one PhD on enhancing mesoscopic models to enable simulation of the transition period from today's traffic to a mix of vehicles with different AV-levels towards 100% AV level 5.
