I had converted silver nanoparticles dispersion (50mL) with silver nanoparticles concentration of 120 mg/l into powder using freeze drying technique. The dispersion and the corresponding obtained powder is shown below. I want your opinions whether the powder amount and look reasonable compared to the quantity of the corresponding dispersion.
It should be okay. There is no hard and fast formula to find volume of dried powder. In addition to amount of reactants, it is also dependent upon shape and size of nanoparticles. In our lab, we have produced gold nanoparticles with lecithin bilayer which show many fold decrease in sediment/pellet volume after removal of outer layer of lecithin.
I would also advice you to consult your supervisor or mentors who have used this or any related method.

I used Maltose to reduce silver nitrate into nanoparticles and the dispersion was ultra-filtrated using ultrafiltration stirred cell (10-kDa )membrane. Though the filtration, I kept concerned that maltose residues are still exist in the powder when I applied the freeze drying.
