I do not think it does. Not yet anyway. The nature of the psychological elements embedded in the pricing/trading game may change and/or broaden, but that still does not diminish the role of psychology. I recall reading a paper about the role of algorithmic trading in inducing fragmented, smaller size trades, while minimizing price clustering around round dollar/cent values. Though this was construed as a boon for pricing efficiency, the authors did report lingering clustering patterns for smaller cap securities, suggesting biases are alive and well. This means price quotes (in cents) would not achieve a uniform distribution encompassing all possible values thanks to psychological elements governing order flow.

How these kinks will be ironed out by automated trading in the coming years is tough to predict. As algorithms force markets toward (apparent) efficiency, what incentives will remain for active management or hardcore speculative trading will be interesting to see as well.

Your post may look initially like a simple question but very deep. Automated trading is a sector category of securities market, assume to be thriving on statistical derivation, hence one will expect operations devoid of emotion, thereby de-valuing the psychological presence in the systemic operations of the automated market.

However, it functionality as a system goes beyond computerization analysis, to be perceived as Artificial Intelligence solely at play due to the two major outlined factors below;

[1] To determine the behaviour of currency in terms of price is derived from macroeconomic factors established by human actions in an open-market not on the computerized platform

[2] In the process of retail trading on the on-line platform, there is a human factor governing the probable decision of the market action of trade

These two major circumstance heighten the psychological effect in the securities market.

You have made an apt remark however this entaglement and quantum correlation of the two systems i.e. the human system and the machine system is in our analysis a quantum superposition of the fundamental electron waves of each of the systems, string theoretic and particular, and as we have found from computer experiments run over internetworks, satellites and databases gives quantum mechanical results which can be using both Physics as well as Economics Principles and Computer Science be analysed. We have been able to achieve that may we say humbly. Of course we believe it opens up big research gaps for the future and is the fundamental set of results on which our school is based and by kind courtesy of US, Japanese and Indian Governments and the EPS, Royal Society, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and Indian Natiobnal Science Academy and the Econometric Society and the Royal Economic Society in particular enabled us to set our school in motion in the US, Japan and India.
