Technologies making us connected via phones, social networks but we may decide to be alone since social media creates pressure for celebrities like musicians, footballers. so to put off pressure keep alone.
One thing is pretty obvious, we are becoming a part of global village but in this process we are getting away from our own families. Now we know what is happening around the globe, but what is happening in our very surrounding is totally ignored.
Technology is changing the nature of social communication. In today's world, not personal communication, but mediated through various technological means and virtual platforms, is becoming increasingly relevant.
I think we are better conected in professional, work, family, even doing broader our communities because we can reach contact with people with same interests abroad the world, and I am sure this is wonderful. In the other face of the coin, isolation, I dont think we are more isolated, contrary, we always in contact with somebody at the other extreme of the net, just like we are doing right nos and interpersonal interactions trascend the physical presente and contribuye to reinforce the idea of humanity, instead of nationality, ame again I must say this is wonderful. At familiar level, we are better and constant comunicated, more than ever, but in the other hand, in physical presence we must reinforce our interaction because the presente of technology distracted us.

Thank you all for making this discussion so interesting and informative. Technology has brought new ways of contact, but it has also reduced direct contact. How can we improve?
It is not the technology that makes us more alone and more connected. It is the Self that has the intention, freedom to decide, and the ability to carry out something that enables us to be more alone and connected. Technology artificially replicates only some of those inherently present in nature as ways in making connections not just with humans but with other created beings as well. We are naturally connected with anything in this cosmic world. Technology hastens only being alone and connected, but it does not make us more alone and connected. We are becoming dependent on technology because of its availability and we need it.
Technology is a wonderful tool for being a part of a virtual world , so it will never make one lonely (I am pretty sure ) . Well, are we more dependent on it , may be for good reasons (I hope)
It just exposed more of what we are... That much of our communication is superficial as are much of our attachments. That we don't really need to hang out with people in our surroundings when time/space restrictions do not force us to. Basically in one sense we now live in a digital village all connected, in the other - it shows that people irl communicate either out of animalistic habit, making noise for its own sake, or just because they can't do better in terms of finding useful communication target or being able to communicate efficiently and productively.
Yes as an educator, I have seen the use of technology hindering teachers and administrators in the classroom and other settings of the school. For example, I have seen teachers trying to use manual means for a presentation when the technology has failed. It is quite embarrassing to see that educators can't use other means to present material when technology has failed.
We have become more dependent on technology. At work this may be good, but its excessive use for communication has kept us away from real social relationships which have become more virtual than realistic.
Technology is a great thing, but it is also going to be the thing that tears us apart as a society if we don't make changes on how dependent we are on it.
Science (Latin sciere, to know) and technology (Greek techne, skill) work together to permit people to apply their knowledge to make life better for everybody. Technology refers to tools which result from state-of-the-art knowledge disseminated by scientists. Ideally, technology enables humanity to share, and benefit from, discoveries made by scientists.
Thank you colleagues for participating in this discussion and making it so valuable.
Do you feel that communication among young people has gradually been transmitted through text messages rather than face-to-face? Should we agree with this model?
Sometimes back I have expressed my views in the area of your question offered to me for which I submit herewith my views for your kind perusal .
It has been observed that certain scientist ,researcher or even person of an art they very often live in their own compartment . With this scientific development of our present century by major person offering the new product & invention in the hands of school children to the different person carry out their assignment in lonely manner & with computer ,mobile, tablet & such other devices are the root cause of person loneliness .
Whether believe it or not , such person with their passing age have remain morbid as they have failed to adjust their life either with the family or their friendly associate including member of society .
Technologies and social media connect with globe, but distances with people at a local place.
Children are giving off outdoor games and activities. They are also giving off indoor games. Now mobile games are solutions to all. It not only weakens physical development of children, but also weakening eye sight and other such things.
Technology connects us to the vast amount of knowledge and information out there. Certainly one can become over-dependent on technology and become an addict, losing some of their own sharpness of thinking.
Thank you for your thought-provoking addition to this discussion. The benefits of advanced communications have enabled us to connect with each other across the world. But can we improve the damage behind it?
Technologies and their development are part of the evolution of our civilization. they are reflected on all sides of a person’s existence - work, life, science, communications ... They overshadow our existence, therefore we cannot imagine ourselves without them. Unfortunately, the latest neuroscience data also speak about the dangers of technology - the deterioration of the memory, thinking and behavior of people, especially young people. These are the basic advantages of man and therefore we need to think about how to stop the development of this influence.
Connections need time, the most valuable and non-renewable resource. It is essential that we prioritize the connections and spent time on them accordingly. Technology enables fast build-up of connections which are often superficial and distant but pleasing. This leads to more connections at the cost of time spent on much deeper and closer connections.
Yes, I am dependent technically but that the technical gadgets occupy our time 'technically' ( to search some datas, information and kinds of research). But the concept of your 'too' is depending on our perspective. Maybe it seems that we are too attached with this technical world , but the main issue is on our way to search. Problem occurs from both non-technicality and technical world. If individual 'I' can control his or her realm to find something then the mass would be helpful to get some positive value from technical world.
Therefore, 'too' can be positive in both ways (use and non-use).
One of the most positive aspects of the modern technological revolution is that it allows people to communicate and communicate from opposite ends of the world, which was previously unthinkable. This is especially important for scientific exchange between researchers. The negative impact is that well-known and closely living people also prefer this way of communication. This should be most worrying, as it destroys the natural connections and lively emotional communication between people, which affects their behavior.
@ Srini Vasan, It may be possible that technology in all of its countless uses actually improves our "sharpness in thinking" because it requires us to learn how to be technologically literate, which, in turn, implicates all sorts of related skills. But I do agree with your "caveat emptor" ("let the user beware, or be aware") that spending excessive amounts of time to the detriment of our other important responsibilities amounts to being "too dependent on technology," as Yu-Da Lin's question indicates. In my opinion, technology enables us to become more ethically and morally responsible than we were during the pre-technological Industrial Age, which has set humanity against nature by exploiting planet Earth.
It's very difficult to answer but man invent technology for better future I think we all are connect through technology we alone not for technology but for time management
Balance is the key here. So if we can use technology in a balanced manner, it will keep us connected with the family, friends and society. We can take advantages of the technology in real life. But this technology cannot replace feelings and real life experiences. So we need a balance here.
Also, due to these technologies, we can create a fake world around us and thats problematic. Hiding behind fake masks and indulging in activities that consume our time in a non-productive manner is the darker side of the technology.
In short, technology is a tool just like a knife. You can cut an apple with the knife and you can kill somebody with it also. So it really matters who is using the tool and the purpose of using it.
