If a subject is introduced to a new abstract concept by way of metaphor, how likely will it be that their thought is shaped by the conceptual metaphor?

For example: "Think of the concept of "theory" as a building. A foundation of truth is laid, and then building blocks of ideas are place together to build a strong theoretical framework."

Is there empirical evidence that teaching concepts via metaphor improves apprehension of the concept?
