I ask this question because I have already heard this assertion several times; each time it was stated by different people including even researchers. It would appear that there are factors in the professional life of a researcher that are incompatible (even diametrically opposed) with other factors in his social life.
What is your opinion on the question?
Thank you and I apologize if my question is misplaced.
I do not think that success in professional life correlates with failure in social life.I have a successful professional life, but I did not fail in social life.But is true that a researcher has to remain a bit detached from society if he is to be successful.I have remained detached from social life without being isolated.I participate in social life , go to parties and picnics, mix with students , scholars and professors. But I also remain detached.
Personally, it should not mean a failure in social life as researchers. The social aspect should also be taken care of. We should always learn to live a balanced life.
Dear Milliam, I do not agree with this assertion. It depends on what is professional and what i social to someone.
