Older publications claim, that starch synthase can utilize UDP-Glc as substrate (e.g. Baxter and Duffus 1973 http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2FBF00387476 you can see the first two pages upon clicking on Look inside).
However, all the current papers speak only about ADP-Glc as substrate for starch synthase.
Was it ever disproved, that SS would use UDPG? Or is it only forgotten and/or ignored knowledge?
Thank you, but if I have not missed anything, they cite on page 2 Recondo and Leloir from 1961, which is even older than the paper I mentioned.
However, at least, it seems there was no refutation of the UDPG usage for starch biosynthesis.
