Does crystalline Silicon show piezoelectric properties?

There is no such report for crystalline silicon but under ultrahigh strain conditions p-type single crystal silicon nanowires possess an anomalous piezoresistance effect.
Read the attached article.
You would not expect a piezoelectric effect in undoped, unstrained silicon. You need some kind of diploe moment.

Silicon do not have piezo electric property thanks to its symmetrical crystallographic structure. Piezo electricity is observed in quartz crystals.
It is observed also in Ceramics. Such piezo electricity gets permanent when the material is mechanically stressed.
