In your experience, does the PROSPERO systematic literature review registration require periodic update of the review? I believe that Cochrane has this as a requirement but PROSPERO guidance seems to have left this as optional?
In their guidance here https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/#guidancenotes they state the following, which, in my view implies that the review update would be optional?
Registering an update of a completed review
If you decide to update the registration of a review you have already completed, you can access the record by signing in and going to My PROSPERO records. You can make changes to the protocol and submit it as an update and it will be processed as for a new review. It is important to decide if you are updating a review, or in fact because of changes to the protocol, are doing a new review.

It's not mandatory to update a systematic review and meta-analysis if you have registered your protocol with PROSPERO. However, for example, you you published a non-Cochrane meta-analysis in 2014 (which was registered with PROSPERO) and want to update that meta-analysis in 2018, you can update the existing protocol (registered with PROSPERO).
However, in case of Cochrane, as far as I knew, we have to update the full review once every 2 years, however, PROSPERO gets that Cochrane update automatically and you can view that protocol/full review in your PROSPERO profile.
